NEIGHBOURHOOD DOWNLOAD!

(Bet you didn’t see that coming, huh?)

Welcome to Rodeburg, a small neighbourhood with a lot of secrets. Dead lovers, creatures of the night, amateur sleuths, you name it. Rodeburg’s got it all!

Rodeburg is meant to be some kind of continental gothic neighbourhood. Most of the names are of German, French or Dutch origin and the mansions are inspired by existing mansions near me (German architecture is… something.).

This is a custom neighbourhood. It is completely CC free and requires all expansion packs and stuff packs to play (it will probably work fine without all of the stuff packs, but it definitely requires Mansion and Garden to work).

Rodeburg contains 14 lots and 16 playable characters (of whom 4 are dead at the start of the game) and one NPC paperboy). Other than that, it is completely clean. I followed katatty’s guide here to make sure it will be corruption free and it should be according to Hood Checker (but if there’s someone more experienced, please feel free to check for signs of corruption- wouldn’t want to upload a corrupted neighbourhood file).

On to the Families:

The Legrand family has been around for centuries. Once a huge and powerful family, after a string of terrible tragedies the only living members, Alfons, Sophie and their nephew Albert have to fight for the survival of their family name.

After a mysterious illness befell him, local playboy Konrad Pechstein had to quit his job and withdrew to his old family mansion, where he’s now living with his housekeeper and nurse Judith Wicke. With his ‘illness’ starting to take over his life, he struggles to retain control over himself, with devastating consequences.

Local sweetheart Alwine Schleedorn and her brother Emil have recently inherited their parents’ old farm. But with Emil showing more and more strange and uncharacteristic behaviour lately, Alwine is worried about his safety.

Henri Trist recently moved back to Rodeburg after years abroad, but what made him return? Certainly not the clean fresh air of the village, so could his intention be a bit more… sinister?

After Joseph’s sudden death, Liesel has struggled to keep the family afloat. Joseph had been a successful studio musician prior to his death, and his income is sorely missed. Both Irma and Fritz miss their father dearly and Lisel can’t help but feel overburdened with all the work… and her guilt. Can the van de Berg recover from this blow of fate?

Anna Nocenti is new to town and determined to get to the bottom of the strange happenings around town. Equipped with a sharp mind and a good nose, she could stir up quite a lot of trouble in this little sleepy town.

Additional information:

Some memories can seem a bit vague. This was done on purpose since I love to leave things open to interpretation.

Of the two starter houses that can be found on Main Street, one could easily be converted into an apartment duplex. In fact, all you have to do is type in “changelotzoning apartmentbase”. I didn’t do this, because… well, I forgot. Sorry.

All lots have been briefly playtested and work without issues as far as I’m concerned.

The graves of the deceased can be found on their families’ lots instead of the graveyard. I’ve had issues with disappearing gravestones on community lots in downloaded hoods. Never had those when the graves where on their home lots. I’m pretty sure it’s arbitrary, but nevertheless, I left them there.

Installation instructions:

Just put it into your regular neighbourhood folder. You should find it under Documents => EA Games => The Sims 2 => Neighborhoods

Lastly, credits!

Thank you @katatty for your throughout tutorial on how to create a custom neighbourhood. It gave me the kick in the butt I needed to finally bring that idea I had been floating around in the back of my head for a while.

My friend Nina, who came up with the name Rodeburg, and gave me the idea to add a ruin to the neighbourhood.

My boyfriend, who, when I lamented that the neighbourhood didn’t look “German” enough told me to “just add more garden gnomes”. I did. See if you can spot it.
